For many people Renting an apartment may be a first, and if it is, it can be confusing or intimidating.
But it doesn’t have to be!
The first thing you must do is set a budget. Now, rent cost vary from city to city. So what you can afford in Cambridge may have fewer options than in Allston and they are right next door to each other!
Location would be the second thing to determine, for that reason.
Once you do those two things and you find an apartment you like, it’s time to apply! This can be a stressful and anxious time. Again, it doesn’t have to be. It can be fun and a simple.
Most apartments will require 3-4 times the monthly rent to move in. This is all determined by the landlord and how qualified you are as a tenant!
How do you qualify tenants? Simple, landlords look into income and credit. This shows that 1. You can make payments. 2. You make payments on time.
Having previous landlord references can help when those are in question.
With the application you will need the following:
- proof of income
- credit report
- 1 form of vail picture ID
- a Deposit (1st month’s rent)
Once accepted, a lease will be drafted. Upon signing the lease, all other funds will be due. This can include, last month’s rent, security deposit, and brokers fee.
After that, your good to go! The apartment is yours! It sounds simple because it can be. With the right help a stressful move can become easy.
